Short answer: Most Amazon Renewed items can be returned within 90 days. Renewed Premium (and Renewed Automotive) items get 365 days. What the Amazon Renewed Guarantee covers
- Refund or replacement: If you're unhappy with the item, including if it doesn't work as expected, Amazon says you can request a full refund or a replacement unit if one is available, within the return period.
- Free returns: Return shipping is free. If Amazon refunds or replaces the item and never gets the return, you may be charged the original price.
- Product support: A dedicated Amazon customer service associate is available during the return period.
- Asurion warranty (select items only): Some Renewed items get Amazon's 30-day return period followed by a free 11-month limited warranty from Asurion for defects in material and workmanship, with no deductible. Asurion repairs or replaces the item, or gives you an Amazon gift card or check for the price you paid (minus taxes and separately stated fees). It applies only to items bought on Amazon.com and delivered in the 50 US states.
- Not covered: The Asurion warranty excludes damage from accident, misuse, neglect, fire, water, alteration, third-party repair or parts, commercial use, or other external causes. Amazon also says it may decline returns or refunds if it decides the guarantee is being abused.
How to start an Amazon Renewed return
- Prepare the device. Back up your data, turn off phone tracking, unlink cloud accounts, and do a factory reset. Amazon says a device that isn't wiped won't qualify for a replacement or refund.
- Go to Your Orders. Find the Renewed item and click Get Product Support next to it to reach a Renewed support associate, or start the return from Your Orders.
- No button? If you don't see Get Product Support and the item is still within its return period, use Amazon's Contact Us.
- Choose refund or replacement and ship the item back using the free return option. Send it promptly so you aren't charged for an unreturned item.
