Target's returns help page, as we fetched it on Oct 21, 2026, states no 2026 holiday return extension. It only says holiday and limited-time-only collections "may have modified return policies." Until Target posts dates, the standard windows apply, counted from the purchase (or, for Target.com, from delivery or pickup).

Returning a Target gift with a gift receipt or proof of purchase

Bring the gift and the gift receipt or packing slip to a Target store. Your refund comes as a Target GiftCard.
Gift-receipt returns can't be done on the same day the gift was bought. Wait until the next day.

Returning a Target gift without a receipt

Without a gift receipt or packing slip, you may get a merchandise return card in the store.
Target can also look up a purchase made with a Target Circle Card or a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit card, if you have that card (the giver's card, so this usually means bringing the giver).
Items sold by Target Plus Partners need proof of purchase. In-store returns of Partner items without an eligible receipt are denied.

Example dates add calendar days to Dec 15, 2026 (Dec 16 is day 1). If a store counts the purchase day itself as day 1, the deadline is a day earlier. Each store says whether the clock starts at purchase or at delivery; for a gift, that's when the giver bought it or it arrived, not when you opened it. Go by the date on the gift receipt or order.
