Can you return Black Friday purchases?

Short answer: Yes. At the 10 big stores we track, Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases follow the store's normal return rules, plus any holiday extension the store has announced. None of their official policies sets a separate return window for Black Friday deals. Amazon, Walmart, Kohl's and Macy's have announced 2026 holiday extensions that cover Black Friday (Nov 27) and Cyber Monday (Nov 30) purchases, mostly to Jan 31, 2027. Target, Best Buy and Apple hadn't announced 2026 dates when we checked on Oct 24, 2026, so their standard windows apply.

Holiday extensions go by the purchase date: Amazon covers items bought Nov 1–Dec 31, 2026, Walmart Oct 1–Dec 31, Kohl's Oct 4–Dec 30 and Macy's Oct 5–Dec 31, 2026. Black Friday and Cyber Monday fall inside all four.
A deal can still be final sale. Amazon lists "specific discounted items" among its Final Sale products, and Macy's Last Act merchandise is final sale.

Return-by dates for a Black Friday (Nov 27, 2026) purchase

Amazon: Jan 31, 2027 (holiday extension); Apple-brand products Jan 15, 2027.
Walmart: Jan 31, 2027 for most items (holiday extension); most wireless phones 14 days (Dec 11, 2026) and excluded from the extension.
Kohl's: Jan 31, 2027 (holiday extension, including Premium Electronics, Watches, Jewelry and Mattresses).
Macy's: Jan 31, 2027 for most merchandise (holiday extension); items sold by Dyson and Mac Duggal 30 days (Dec 27, 2026).
Target: 90 days for most unopened items (Feb 25, 2027); electronics 30 days (Dec 27, 2026); Apple, Beats and phones 14 days (Dec 11, 2026). No 2026 holiday dates announced yet.
Best Buy: 15 days from the day you receive it (Dec 12, 2026 if received Nov 27); 60 days for My Best Buy Plus and Total members; phones and other activatable devices 14 days. No 2026 holiday dates announced yet.
Apple (bought from Apple): 14 calendar days from receipt (Dec 11, 2026). No 2026 holiday dates announced yet.
Costco: no fixed deadline for most merchandise; TVs, computers, tablets, phones and other listed electronics 90 days from receipt (Feb 25, 2027).
Home Depot: 90 days for most merchandise (Feb 25, 2027); TVs and computers 30 days, unused and factory-sealed (Dec 27, 2026); holiday decor 30 days.
Lowe's: 90 days for most new, unused merchandise (Feb 25, 2027); TVs and electronics 30 days (Dec 27, 2026); Christmas items on or before Dec 25, 2026.

Catches on Black Friday deals

Price drops: many stores won't match a Black Friday price later. Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart exclude Black Friday pricing from price matching, Apple's price protection excludes "special sales events, such as Black Friday", and Amazon offers no price matching compensation.
Restocking fees don't take a holiday. Best Buy still charges $45 on opened activatable devices and 15% on drones, cameras, projectors and some other categories.
Count from the right day: Apple, Best Buy, Target.com, and Amazon outside its holiday dates start the clock at delivery or receipt, not the order date.
Bought it as a gift? The clock still runs from the giver's purchase date, not Christmas.
